Before you Install/Configure Microsoft Dynamics CRM Outlook client OR upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM Outlook client from one version to another. You must consider a compatibility check by verifying the expected minimum pre-requisite against your current configuration.

Upgrading from One version to another may be incompatible with earlier versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server.

For Example: CRM 2013 for Outlook is incompatible with earlier versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server, such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 (on-premises).

Verify that your computer and software supports the version of CRM

CRM Version Hardware Software
CRM 2011 CRM for Outlook hardware requirements CRM for Outlook software requirements
CRM 2013 CRM for Outlook hardware requirements CRM for Outlook software requirements
CRM 2015\2016 CRM for Outlook hardware requirements CRM for Outlook software requirements

Changing from 32-bit to 64-bit.

If you want to change to a different processor architecture (move from 32-bit to 64-bit) while upgrading, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the client. For more info please check Incorrect architecture of Outlook plug-in.
